A population immunogenetics study mapping KIR gene frequencies, framework patterns, and centromeric/telomeric haplotypes in a Northern Indian cohort.
In this population-based study, we examined the distribution of killer immunoglobulin-like receptor genes among healthy individuals from Northern India to better define regional immunogenetic architecture. By profiling framework genes, variable gene content, and centromeric and telomeric motif patterns, the work described the diversity of KIR repertoires in a population that had been underrepresented in reference datasets. The study established a baseline for interpreting KIR-linked disease associations and transplant immunogenetics in this population.
