A clinical metagenomics study evaluating SARS-CoV-2 detection, respiratory co-pathogens, microbiome diversity, and variant identification.
This study developed and validated a clinical metagenomics workflow using 125 nasopharyngeal and throat swabs to detect SARS-CoV-2, identify co-pathogens, characterize microbiome shifts, and recover viral lineages. The pipeline achieved high sensitivity, detected 31 potential co-pathogens, and identified Alpha and Zeta variants, demonstrating metagenomics’ diagnostic and surveillance value.
